CES 2024 Preview: Four Themes to Watch For!

    Jan 9, 2024

It’s that time of year again! CES 2024 starts today (Tuesday, 9 January) and runs through Friday, 12 January, and the A2MAC1 Team is already onsite to gather and synthesize the best that the show has to offer. This includes coverage of the latest innovations that we know the automotive industry is most interested in: design efficiency, performance & cost trade-off, compelling user experience, and regulation compliance—especially when it comes to sustainability and recycling.

To help attendees and others in the industry navigate and get the most out of CES 2024, here are four themes for 2024 that our A2MAC1 Team is looking forward to learning more about in the next four days:

#1 Artificial intelligence: all talk or real value?

While artificial intelligence (AI) has been established in the automotive industry, there will be more exciting announcements at CES this year, including Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Virtual Assistant and Marelli’s Software-Defined Interior among others. Will these new AI-powered features significantly enhance the driver and passenger experience? We look forward to understanding these and other announcements and will report back after the show.

#2 Lighting up the user experience

In addition to the impact of AI on the driver and passenger experience, we are looking forward to the latest innovations on MicroLED technology (What is MicroLED? Check out this 1-minute explainer video from Samsung). We’re excited to see how the technology will impact exterior lighting, such as Forvia’s HELLA FlatLight | µMX; as well as in-cabin displays, including AUO’s CES debut of its display solutions. On top of that, pillar-to-pillar screens are taking over vehicle cockpits and we are looking forward to the announcements from Mobis, LG, Intellias, AGC, and others.

    #3 New year, new vehicles

Of course, CES would not be complete without announcements of new vehicles and vehicle lines from automotive OEMs, and this year is no exception. There will be numerous announcements including Honda’s new EV Series and KIA’s new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) platform and the concept models it underpins.

    #4 The road to autonomy…continued

While autonomous driving faced setbacks in 2023, announcements at CES 2024 may provide some answers for the industry. Robotaxis announcements from Hyundai Motor Group’s 42dot and Amazon’s Zoox, as well as updates on LiDAR technology from Valeo, Robosense, Ommatidia, Seyond, and others may offer new and critical performance capabilities in more condensed packages.

These are just four of the themes our team will be covering at CES 2024. We’ll share our key insights following the show and prior to releasing our comprehensive AutoVision report
